PReS Vaccination Working Party – Statement on Vaccination against Influenza

The PReS Vaccination working party strongly supports safe vaccination in children with chronic inflammatory diseases.Vaccination is the most effective measure for prevention of infections, which is especially important in children with rheumatic diseases.
Even more so in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the coming autumn and winter season, we make a strong recommendation for vaccination against influenza to the patients with rheumatic diseases, to reduce the burden of illness and protect our patients from this infection during these unprecedented times. Data from studies in children with rheumatic diseases showed that influenza vaccination for these children, including children on immunomodulatory therapy (non biologic and biologic) is safe and immunogenic.
