Call for participation: Sister Hospital Initiative

Date: 06.12.2022

Application deadline: 7th January 2023 - We are happy to announce the launch of the third edition of the PRES Sister Hospital Initiative.

This is a proposal to support hospitals and health professionals in low resource income countries by twinning them with pediatric rheumatology teams in other countries. The aim is to utilize opportunities for two-way exchange of knowledge and educational opportunities.

This initiative is aligned with the PRES Mission “Dedicated to advance the care and improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people with rheumatic conditions”. It is also aligned with the Global MSK Task Force ethos of ‘working better together’ and learning from each other.

With this initiative we want to pair centers across the world that are willing to share their expertise and experience. Of course, scientific knowledge is important, but also, we would like the centers to share how they work with other health professionals or organize their teams on a daily basis.

During the last two years we had a pilot experience. The review of the experience has been very positive.

We consider this to be an excellent opportunity to explore the differences between health systems of the hospitals involved, to learn about organizational aspects of care for children with rheumatic diseases in different settings, to facilitate the exchange of knowledge to explore the possibilities of more extensive and concrete collaborations (e.g., exchange programs for fellows, clinical or basic, or educational research grants).

This 3rd edition will develop between January and September 2023. We suggest a minimum of 1 monthly session (remote working e.g., by Zoom, Meet), with presenters alternating in each of the paired centers. We encourage that during these sessions the centers present their teams and their organization as well as clinical cases and updates on diseases and treatments. We anticipate that centers in health settings around the world face similar and different challenges and that we all can learn from each other.

For those centers that wish to participate, please let us know by email at pres@mci-group.com before January 7th. Please add a brief biography of your center and team.

We will then contact all centers who state interest with more information.

Warm regards and stay safe,
