Rolando Cimaz

Date: 31.01.2022

It is with enormous sadness that we share with you the terrible news that Rolando Cimaz passed away very suddenly this morning, Saturday 29th January 2022.

Rolando has been an esteemed colleague and a very close friend to so many of us for very many years. Graduating from Milan University (1987), specialising in Paediatrics (1991) and in Rheumatology (2003), following his Fellowship in Paediatric Rheumatology in Dallas, Texas, he worked in Lyon, Florence, and more recently as Head of Paediatric Rheumatology at Gaetano Pini Hopital, Milan and Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Milan, Italy.

Rolando has been an outstanding champion of paediatric rheumatology in Italy, across Europe and the whole world. He has been part of numerous international collaborative research and educational initiatives; we have all gained so much from his expertise, insights, wisdom and personality. Since January 2022, he has also been President of the Italian Paediatric Rheumatology Society.

Rolando has been an incredibly important member of the Paediatric Rheumatology European Society, holding the positions on the PReS Council of Treasurer (1999-2005) and Research Chair (214-2018). He continued to support delivery of our PReS Mission in countless ways, including for example co-leading the forthcoming PReS Vasculitis Course due to take place in Barcelona on 28th/29th March 2022.

He will be deeply missed by us all, and by the patients and families he cared for. We remain deeply indebted to him for all that he has been and all that he has given to Paediatric Rheumatology and our world-wide community.

Our very deepest thoughts are with his wife Antonella, his children Federico and Beatrice, and all of his family at this extremely sad time. May he rest in peace.
