Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Pediatric Residency Program, University of Genoa
Head, Division of Rheumatology, Giannina Gaslini Institute, Genoa, Italy

In my view, the main goals of our scientific society are to disseminate knowledge in the field of pediatric rheumatology, to promote development of high quality research into childhood rheumatic diseases, to foster collaboration between pediatric rheumatology centers in different countries, and to sensitize public health authorities about the needs of children and adolescents with rheumatic diseases and their families.

Consistent with these goals, my commitments as president of PReS will include the organization of courses and other educational activities, the establishment of international exchange fellowships, the support to the young clinicians and scientists, the involvement of health professional and ENCA communities, and the training of new practitioners in our discipline, particularly in underserved countries.

Another key objective that I wish to pursue together with the other members of the Council is the cooperation on clinical, educational, research and social issues with pediatric rheumatology networks sited in other continents, adult rheumatology organizations, and parent and family associations.

Altogether, we will work hard to pursue the mission of PReS, that is, to advance the care and improve the health and well-being of children and young people with rheumatic conditions.
